Class 1 (C+E)

Full artic training – Fast Track Direct Access or Standard upgrade from Class 2. Ideal for higher earning potential.

Class 2 (Category C)

Rigid vehicle training up to 18 tonnes. Perfect first step into professional HGV driving.

CPC Module 2 is a computer-based case studies test lasting about 1 hour 15 minutes with real-life scenarios.

CPC Module 4 is the practical demonstration test assessing safe loading, emergency procedures, vehicle safety checks and related skills.

It depends on the course. Moving from Category C to C+E often takes one to two weeks of practical training. A full Fast Track (car to C+E) typically takes around six to eight weeks from medical through to practical test, depending on test availability.

Average salaries in the North West are typically around £25,000 for Class 2 (C) and £32,000+ for Class 1 (C+E). Experience, overtime, night work and additional qualifications such as ADR can increase earnings further.
